"So Many Books, So Little Time"
Dear S.H.S.A.A. Variety Show Folk,
Happy New Year! Hope this finds you happy, healthy, and ready to create another terrific fundraiser for our Alumni Association (and have a little fun and fellowship along the way!) We’re right on track with where we were last year in terms of preparation time, and I know we’ve all been thinking about it since we struck last year’s set! I’m really excited about this year’s theme, “So Many Books, So Little Time” - the possibilities for variety are bounded only by our imaginations so let’s crack those books!
I have detailed our schedule below, which will follow the same pattern as last year: Tuesday evening Production Team meetings (Production Team only, but all are welcome!), followed by Wednesday evening rehearsals (Production Team and Cast for opener / closer and individual rehearsal). The show will be at the end of April vacation this year because of the way the weekends fall. I hope this will not pose a problem for anyone.
Our Production Team gets stronger every year, and it’s wonderful to work with such seasoned professionals. Jim and Cindy are ready to tackle sound, and I may have an audio engineering student or two interested in helping. I know Adena and Hare have been thinking about this set for about five years, and I can’t wait to see their vision come alive. Up in the lighting booth, a big congratulations to Velcea Kea, the new lighting director at S.H.S.! Vel has generously donated her time to Springfield theater kids for many years, and she is the perfect choice for this position. We’ve known it all along, of course! ;-) Brava, Vel! And thank you for continuing to support the S.H.S.A.A.! Vel’s position will make the transition between the Drama Club’s show and our show even easier, I expect, and we will be able to install our set, lights, etc. by April 1st, as soon as Drama Club is done with their show.
Our Cast continues to grow, in both numbers and individually as cast members and I anticipate writing some memorable moments into the annals to Variety Show history! See you soon!
