It is with deep sadness that our Association has decided to postpone the 2021 Alumni banquet and parade, which is usually scheduled for Father’s Day weekend in June. (June 17-20th, 2021).
With covid still hovering over our nation and the current guidelines/restrictions in place for gatherings and travel, we cannot guarantee the adequate safety measures will be taken for the spectators or the participants, to hold these two Alumni events on these dates.
We still plan to hold the Alumni annual golf tournament at the Crown Point Country on Friday, June 18, 2021. Last year we were able to work within the covid restrictions and still make it a successful and fun event.
Over the next few months, we will watch how the restrictions change (hopefully to the better) and tentatively plan to have the banquet and parade in August 2021.
Please understand that we, the Alumni trustees, want to have the “normal” alumni event, but the safety of our community is the most important item we have to keep in mind.
This has been a long and hard year for the Alumni. We, as many small businesses, have had to fight to stay afloat with no income coming in to help pay bills and support the alumni.
We appreciate that people still have been supportive of the scholarship funds. We will again be awarding over $22,000.00 in scholarship money to SHS senior recipients.
We know that times are tough for many. The expenses for printing and mailing the newsletter is a huge one for the Alumni. With that being said, there has been an effort to contact classmates to collect emails and update mailing addresses. This effort is to ensure each alumni that wants to continue to receive their newsletter will now have the option to receive it by email or mailed to your correct address. Of course, if you wish to receive the newsletter via mail, we will continue to do so, please let us know. Those of you that have been receiving newsletters that belong to you adult children, please help us be updating their information as well. If you haven’t been contacted please feel free to check with your class or you are more than welcome and encouraged to contact the alumni trustees directly. As things may or may not change, we will have much more information in the newsletter, new updated website and our Alumni Facebook page.
