January Update from President, Jean Patoine

Updated: Jan 27, 2022

Good Day Alumni:

Well here we are again with what news we have to offer.

We, the SHS Alumni Trustees really wish to thank everyone for their understanding regarding the obstacles we are up against. The Covid-19 pandemic and all the variants being the major issues for not just us but other organizations and businesses.

We would like to thank the couple people that have come forward with suggestions for the alumni guest of honor. It’s not too later to still get your suggestions turned in.

I have heard that some classes are talking about having some kind of float and get-together in June to celebrate their anniversaries. REMEMBER TO REGISTER YOUR FLOAT for the parade. This can be done on the alumni webpage (https://www.shsalumni.com/alumni-parade). As of right now there has ONLY been one class that has registered.

Another very important item is, if you have an alumnus that you think should be nominated for the Roberta Stokes Smith Hall of Fame please submit the application. This is not a scholarship but recognition of an alumnus that has gone on throughout his or her life and succeeded in ways of the world. If you know of someone please contact the SHS Principal, Bindy Hathorn, (802-885-7900) or I and we will see that you are sent the proper paperwork. Over the years there have been some wonderful people honored from all walks of life.

As always we wish to hear from you regarding anything to do with the alumni. We want to keep our association alive and well and we appreciate your help.

Want to be a trustee with a vote regarding what happens with the alumni????? Contact me or any of the other trustees for information. If you do not want the trustee responsibility but want to help in some way, same thing, contact us. You can choose how and when you would like to help. ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME!

Some sad news for those of us that are Parks & Rec fans, but exciting and happy news for a couple of great guys! Both Keith Eno and Andy Bladyka are leaving soon from their positions. Keith is taking another job elsewhere and Andy is retiring the end of March. This will be creating a major void at the Parks & Rec. We wish both of them all the best in their future endeavors.

Speaking of sports, The Springfield High School Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducting more members in to the Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 5th at the Crown Point Country Club. Checkout their Facebook page for more information (https://www.facebook.com/SHS.Athletics.Hall.of.Fame). This is one of the greatest and largest groups selected, which includes two sports teams.

We are continuing to work toward a “BIG” alumni weekend celebration, but there is much, much more planning to be done.
